The clear coat on my car is starting to bubble and peel. is there any way to fix it short of a new paint job?

if not, is there a way to prevent it from getting worse? i've been washing and waxing it regularly, but the clear coat continues to get worse. The clear coat on my car is starting to bubble and peel. is there any way to fix it short of a new paint job?
nope. The problem was that the surface had some dirt or grease or oil on it. Then it was painted over and now the paint did not adhere to the metal.

You have to go down to a good clean surface and repaint. good luck. The clear coat on my car is starting to bubble and peel. is there any way to fix it short of a new paint job?
Someone will have a miracle cure. But the truth is, there is nothing you can do. Don't wax the paint underneath the clearcoat, it might hold on to the wax and look chalky.
that's why you should wax your car every 6 months with a clear coat finish so that doesn't happen but there is nothing you can do but repaint

uh oh you better get maaco

  • Should I use a base coat/top coat when I paint my nails?

I find a base coat of a nail strengthener is a good start. It helps the colored coat slide on smoother and stops it staining your nails. The top coat helps to stop the color from chipping off and giving you a high shine.

It's worth it, but not essential if you're using quality products.

    All the best.

XOXShould I use a base coat/top coat when I paint my nails?
Always base coat. It helps prevent damage to your nails because the nail polish doesn't allow the nail to breathe.

It can prevent your nail from becoming brittle, and turning yellow or discoloured (from nail polish stains).

Top coat can keep you nailpolish on for longer, reduce chipping, and add shine!Should I use a base coat/top coat when I paint my nails?
id suggest doing so- if u do the nail polish will stay on longer- howevr some brands arent all that great and dont work so well a good brand that id suggest is OPI, ur local nails salon, beauty store, or wal-mart shoud hav it!! :)
i usually use a top coat but not a base coat because i use 2 coats of nail polish and if you have that mant layers it's too thick and peels off
nail polish lasts longer and your nails dont get brittle and yellow
yeah, i always do. Your nail polish won't chip as easily and it will help it to last longer.

When painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?

painted latex over enamel or oil paintWhen painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?
yeah. you probably painted a water-based paint over an oil-based paint. my suggestion sand down any areas that have bubbled. wash the entire wall with liquid sander (follow the instructions carefully). then prime the wall with any quality paint primer/sealer. by then you should be able to paint anything you want without any further problems.

hope this helps. without seeing the wall or knowing more specific info this is my best answer. When painting my wall on a second coat it started bubbling up why ????lowes paint satin latex?
I've been doing this a long time and don't want to offend other answers.

First of all you didn't state the finish on the wall prior to this painting. If it had been an oil base paint under you would have seen signs immediately in the first coat.

You also don't explain the bubbling,,, and I wonder, was the paint shaken or stirred so recently before the second coat that it was still full of air bublles,,,OR your applicator...IE: Roller was an incorrect nap';? Normal, small air bubbles often appear, pop, and can be gently rolled in,

How long did you wait to apply the second coat?

If in fact these aren't strictly Bubbles, then possibly the wall was dirty? AS in film from cooking, nicotine, etc.

Finally,,,and no real dig at Lowes, but I never buy a store brand paint,,,maybe silly, but I have my preferences.

    Rev. Steven
didnt wait long enough or didnt take of old wallpaper
Prob had oil based paint on the wall. You have to prime with an oil-based primer before you put the latex coat on.

What is a better car paint for a black pearl base coat, Nason or Chromobase?

They are both top quality products.

How to remove clear coat from automobiles without hurting paint?

The clear coat is bonded to the color coat. If the clear coat is flaking you will have to sand the area without removing the base coat. You have to blend the new clear coat into the good clear coat thats left.

If it all bad you will have to do the whole car.

Paint Chips: Automobile paint will receive chips over time due to normal everyday driving. Southern Colors is able to repair the paint damage using its proprietary process. Keeping the painted finish free of chips will protect against rust, and improve the overall appearance of the automobile.

Clear coat scratches: These scratches are usually caused by simply sliding a box or briefcase off the surface of the car, dragging dirt across the finish, and putting minor scratches into the clear coat. Clear coat is a polyurethane, which like most plastics, will haze or turn white when disturbed. The best solution for repairing this type of damage is to cut the damage out of the clear coat through either high speed buffing or wet sanding and polishing. The scratch is Gone, not to return. No painting is required.

Heavier scratches: Scratches that are too deep to cut out will need to be touched up with the correct primer, base coat and clear coat. Touch up will not eliminate the damage, as a physical outline of the damage will always remain. Depending upon color, location and severity of damage, the outcome of the repair will vary. However, in most cases the repair provides a significant improvement to the painted finish.

Very heavy scratches: Scratches that have a scroll design (not a straight line) can only be marginally improved with touch up. Color plays the biggest role in the outcome of repair on this type of damage, but generally only marginal improvement can be expected. A full repaint of the damaged panels is the best solution to repairing the damage.

How long does the average car take to touch up?

Most repairs can be completed in an hour, while the customer waits. For larger jobs, the vehicles can be dropped off in the morning (or the night before) and picked up that same afternoon.

How do I know if I should have my car touched up or repainted?

Touch up is designed to improve the appearance of minor paint damage. If you wish the damage to completely go away, you should consider repainting (in a body shop). Southern Colors is very precise in describing the expected end result, so that the customer can make an informed decision on whether to touch up or repaint. How to remove clear coat from automobiles without hurting paint?

How to remove clear coat from automobiles without hurting paint?
It can't be done. The color under the clear is soft %26amp; has a dull finish, while the clear is very hard. There would also be adhesion problems if you were to re-clear over old basecoat.
Microfiber cloths are amazing and they may remove the spray paint and won't damage the auto paint.
Why in the world would you want to.... there are no chemicals made to do this, and mechanical means, a.k.a. sandpaper are not going to work either. Sand the clear down with 400 wet, and just reclear if you are having a problem. You really need to be more specific.
Why are you removing the clearcoat? Is it peeling up or coming loose? You will have to sand it off and you are going to take some of the color with it. Just bite the bullet and repaint it.

Can I coat the outside of a terra cotta pot with spray paint or is bad for the plant I'm going to put in?

If not, what can I use? The more affordable the better. I want to paint at least 10- 6'; pots. Can I coat the outside of a terra cotta pot with spray paint or is bad for the plant I'm going to put in?
You can coat the outside of you pot with any color you so desire. I would use an acrylic paint but first you must sand away any rough spots or loose clay particles on the rim, bottom edge, and outside of the pot.

Since you are using them for planting, seal the INSIDE with oil or water based polyurethane-2-3 coats-let dry. Either of these will work but oil based polyurethane will last longer. This will prevent any of your exterior paint from seeping its way into the soil.

It may have an impact on the breathing of the pot. However I have done this with little or no impact. I would try one pot first before doing a great quantitiy of potsCan I coat the outside of a terra cotta pot with spray paint or is bad for the plant I'm going to put in?
I don't think it's going to hurt the plants any, but you might have trouble getting the paint to stay on. Terra cotta pots ';breathe'; and let moisture out, so I'd be worried the paint might tend to peel off during use. I don't know how you'd find out unless you tried this, though.
I have never painted one personally but it should not affect the plant. Just don麓t paint the inside and don麓t expect the paint to last since terra cotta is porous and absorbs water.
I have painted several but what I do first is paint the inside with rescue 911 which is a waterproofing and comes in either white or black. you can make some very Beautiful pots if you take the time to paint design es
It want hurt the plant but it will not let the pot breath.

Do I need to sand after the first coat of paint (repainting furniture)?

This is kind of a follow up question :] I'm repainting my night table, and I'm on the first coat of paint.

My question is, should I sand again before applying the second coat?

Thanks in advance!! :]Do I need to sand after the first coat of paint (repainting furniture)?
A light sanding with fine grade sand paper will give youa 'key' for the second coat to grip. (Can also even out any uneven spots on original coat)Do I need to sand after the first coat of paint (repainting furniture)?
    Klarissa;

Use #400 grit paper on this, then wipe it down with mineral spirits. The spirits will give it a wet look that you can proof the subsequent finishes look and determine if there are any flaws remaining you want to remedy. Once the spirits evaporates and dries, wipe down the piece with a tack cloth and then apply your second coat.

If you're going to urethane this #800 or #1000 grit the second/final coat and then tack cloth it before applying the urethane. This will provide good adhesion of the urethane, clean the final coat of paint of imperfections, and give you a terrific finish.

  • After stripping the wax coat off of a leather shoe will acrylic paint hold without cracking?

Are you wearing it or making art out of it? If you're wearing it any paint will crack and acrylic will probably crack right away. If youre making art out of it it'll probably be all right though I would do several thin coats rather than any thick ones. You may also want to apply a clear sealer, which might even help if you were wearing it especially if you were only wearing it once for some special reason.

My room is blue, i want to paint it light yellow but do i need a white coat of paint?

    yeh

the question is what it is

do i need to paint it white first? or something :SMy room is blue, i want to paint it light yellow but do i need a white coat of paint?
not usually, my bedroom used to be red, we went over it with magnolia and it took two coats :) so i wouldnt waste undercoat, just give it two coats of yellow xx

    http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20100114054355AAbmBuK

answer mine pleasee ^ :)My room is blue, i want to paint it light yellow but do i need a white coat of paint?
A good paint should cover the blue (I'd suggest the Behr paint that is also a primer) with two coats. Sometimes you'll need 3 coats with extreme color changes.
you need to cover it with a primer/sealer or the blue will bleed through and you'll end up with a green tone. try your benjamin moore dealer. the stuff is great.
I've painted light yellow over blue without a problem - you'd be surprised how much paint will cover another color. You'll need two coats. Don't panic when you see the blue under the first coat, the second coat will cover it well. A first coat of yellow will provide more coverage than a coat of primer will.
you will prop need to do 1 coat of white, then 2 coats of light yellow
u need to prime it with primer first, if not then then the yellow might have blue undertones.
if u could remove the blue color by sand paper then u can apply the yellow color directly otherwise paint with white first
Because you have a lighter color being painted over a darker one, you should always prime the walls white first to avoid any bleed-through from the underlying darker color.

If you'd like to preview your room with your new yellow color before you begin painting, have www.roomvues.com paint a photo of your room with their full-service color visualizer.

    Pretty cool!
You need to use a primer first. They do normally come as white, but you can have them tinted slightly to make it even closer to the yellow you want. You may still have to use a second coat, depending on how dark the blue is.
    yes
I would definitely recommend a coat of white latex primer first. The use of primer has other benefits, beside just color coverage. It will also help to even out any areas you may have sanded or patched, and will ensure the new paint doesn't flake off if the previous paint might have been oil based.

Even with the primer, you will likely require at least 2 coats of the yellow paint in order to get an even surface and a ';saturated'; color. Also, try to choose a yellow that has a tiny bit of a muddy or gray undertone (versus a ';pastel'; yellow), in order to better coordinate with bedding, furniture accessories. ';Pastel'; colors only ever look right with white or other pastel colors. Everything else you try to introduce into the room will look a bit off.

    Hope that helps!

are you sure it's oil paint? if you are, try using turpenoid. rub it on with a rag, let it sit a couple minutes, and then rinse. but since the paint is probably dried by now, there may not be much you can do; turpenoid is a paint thinner and meant to be used for painting, not really for dried paint. but it's worked for me in the past on clothes i havent yet put through the wash.
There is a soap called ';Master's Brush Cleaner and Preserver'; which dissolves caked and dried oil paint from brushes... and works on fabrics too. Have used this and it is a good product, very gentle.

Also, there is a stick called ';Kiss Off'; which claims it will remove oil paint stains from fabric. Never tried it, though.

Paint is bubbling and peeling on ceiling when applying second coat.?

Renovating a new property and working on ceiling in bedroom. Removed polystyrene tiles that were stuck to ceiling and sanded the whole surface to smooth. Applied a first coat and all was ok. Two weeks later just applied the second and areas have bubbled and peeled away when running with the roller. Paint I have used is Dulux so can't be the quality surely. Affordable one coat durable paint.?

I am looking for an affordable brand of paint that only takes one coat. Suggestions!Affordable one coat durable paint.?
Behr, and use a power roller, you WILL save on paint.Affordable one coat durable paint.?
It really depends on the color. Dark colors always require more than one coat. Or if you are covering a dark color with a light one.

I like Philadelphia, it's about $18-$23 per gallon.
Behr brand paint was voted #1 and offers a wide range of colors and textures. You can buy it at Lowes or Home Depot.
    American Traditions at Lowes
That would depend on what your painting, inside or outside. I like Sherwin Williams paint, http://www.sherwin-williams.com They also make weatherbetter that Sears sells. I have painted many houses and I have found that their paint is solid. They are not the cheapest but you get what you pay for. I also like Ben-Moore paints as well. I hope this helps
    Kilz or Kelly Moore
Well it depends on what color it's going over and what color you are choosing. If you are choosing a bright color or deep color or a red there is no such thing as a one coat paint. If you are doing a mid-range or lighter color go with Behr Paint. If you are painting one of the darker, brighter or red colors then make sure you use the tinted primer offered and you should cut down on your coats dramatically.
kilz brand now available with colors and they say one coat. i used it on my basement walls, which were really bad and it worked well
I hate to say this but the more you spend on paint the fewer coats you'll need to paint.
affordable and one coat do not go together, spend a little more on a premiun paint like Pratt and Lampert accolade or benjamin moore regal and you will stand a better chance

of getting one coat coverage.....all paint companies had to re formulate their painta a few years back to comply with new goverment regulations...because of this one coat coverage is pretty much a thing of the past. I am a painting contractor and always bid jobs for two coats.

How do I care for my vehicles Teflon coated paint?

    Hi,

I just purchased a 2007 Tacoma and Toyota put their ';finishing touch'; spray on the exterior paint. I think it is a teflon based protectant. Anyways, it is supposed to protect the paint from the elements. My question is, is there anything I need to do to care of this coating? How about washing? Is it safe to use automotive detergent or will it strip the sealant? How about waxing? Will that srtip it? Thanks for the help!

MitchellHow do I care for my vehicles Teflon coated paint?
Paint protection sold by a dealer is nothing more than car wax--they say it has Teflon in it to sound good 'cause everyone thinks nothing will stick to Teflon. It may have Teflon in it but basically you're paying for the warranty...waste of money in my opinion. Check the wording of the warranty---some of them require you to reapply the wax periodically and you should be able to get more wax at the dealer at no charge....other ones just require that you rewax as normal. Just buy a good quality wax and rewax when the water does not bead up on the car....wash as usual with any good car wash soap not dish soap. Next time, save the 400.00 for a good buff job or detail once a year. How do I care for my vehicles Teflon coated paint?
Do you think or do you know for a fact that it is Teflon based? Hope you know that you just got raped by the dealer. They basically just do a wax job on the paint that you paid $400 for.
go back to the dealer and find the salesman who told you this and well i don't know if that s a good idea . can you say i just got scamed...
PAUL IS CORRECTLY RIGHT, THAT CRAP THAT THEY SELL AT THE DEALERSHIPS IS NOTHING MORE THAN YOU CAN BUY FROM THE AUTO PARTS STORE, BUT REMEMBER TO BUY A QUALITY WAX.

I didn't see a recall on the paint only certain engine cooling systems which can affect the engine.

You see this a lot especially on red or maroon colored cars but it is mainly due to inproper baking on of the color.

If you purchased it new, I would take it to the dealer and pitch a fit anyway. If you bought it used... I would probably do the same.

You might want to check with an auto body shop and have them do it. They have the paint booth, plus since you are painting a cover, it is flexible and needs special additives to the paint to help the paint stay flexible so it won't crack when it is moved.

At least take it and get an estimate on a professional job.How hard would it be to paint a rear bumper cover by myself with clear coat and all.. where can i find info on
For extra $ you can go to any auto body store with the paint code and get the paint in a spray. Most repair manuals have a section for body repair.

If it's new bumper, you Will need to send it and prime it if it's not primed yet. If it's already primed, you should send it using 600 grit send paper before you spray it. When spraying, do not insist in one spot. Make sure that there is no dust on the floor or on the bumper itself. If the floor is dirty get it wet. Also, there spray that you can find at wal-mart that helps the paint to stick to the plastic surface that you can use as most likely your paint will peel. It shouldn't be humid or cold when painting...80 degrees is ok!

    Good luck!
If it's not on the car yet, it's extremely easy. Mainly because you don't have to worry about oversrpay. You could buy cans of auto paint for about $4 each and have it done in no time. I know there is one brand of auto paint that makes colors amazingly close to the original, I just can't think of the name right now.

I was thinking of painting mine because I painted my air-soft guns...but don't because you are running around like a crazy person anyway. Do i need a primer base coat for walls that are already white, when i want to paint walls neutral light brown?

Not really necessary to prime but you will have to clean the walls using TSP.

I would get a gallon of primer and have it tinted to your paint color. Primer is cheaper and you will probably only need 1 coat of paint this way.

If the walls are painted in a flat paint then prime the walls because you won't be able to clean them very well.
yes you should still use primer because it will give it a cleaner look and the white walls you have now could be dirty and won't make the paint stand out to its full potential. You should always use primer even if the walls are already white

Can you clear coat a primer paint on a bicycle frame?

i have a white primer. Can you clear coat a primer paint on a bicycle frame?
Sure. Clear coat, put simply, is paint without pigment. Be aware though that you should make sure that the primer is completely cured so allow at least 3 days (but would be better if you wait 7 days) and proceed.

Make sure that the primer and the clear coat are compatible- don't spray lacquer over enamel and don't assume that just because it says ';acrylic'; in the name they'll work together. Can you clear coat a primer paint on a bicycle frame?
Yep! Assuming acrylic primer and acrylic clear coat.

  • Does anything need to be added to Automotive Acrylic paint before spraying? And does it need clear coat?

you will need to add thinners. any auto store will provide you the correct type. most manufacturers will recommend a mix ratio of about 60% paint to 40% thinners, although that is a guide only. the best way to find the right mix is to use your gun and experiment on a spare panel etc. if the paint has not got pearl or mettallic in it, then it will not need a clear coat. hope this helps.Does anything need to be added to Automotive Acrylic paint before spraying? And does it need clear coat?
depends on if its base or single stage. base needs the right reducer and needs a clear coat. single stage just needs the right hardner and reducer.Does anything need to be added to Automotive Acrylic paint before spraying? And does it need clear coat?
    will need to be thinned

this makes it easier to spray..%26amp; gives a nice smooth finnish..
YES a ton of chemicals actually well not actually a ton but quite a few.... the right reducers.. fish eye removers.. anti orange peal additives etc etc etc.. thats why painters are painters .. its not as easy as you think.. a 5 point variance in ambient air temp an 2% humidity makes a big dif in the paint formula for auto... You do the wrong mix for the situation.. you may as well just use latex house paint and a roller.. cuz thats what its gonna look like anyway...

You dont have to clear coat though.. its not required but its not a bad Idea.. but thats usually poly urethane...

How can i paint linoleum floors the easiest and least expensive way? I want to avoid coat after coat.?

I heard about tile clad paint from sherwin williams is that the best way to go?How can i paint linoleum floors the easiest and least expensive way? I want to avoid coat after coat.?
I was a painting contractor for 10 years, with 15 years in the business, and I have never heard or thought of painting linoleum.

If I were to do it, i would clean it with a solvent like acetone, then soap and water, and let dry. If they have a primer made for it, use it. Sherwin Williams makes great products. If nothing is specified for it, use XIM primer. Then use a floor paint top coat. You will most likely need 2 coats of the top coat paint, and 1 coat of the primer.

    ----

If you really want to protect your floor paint, I just used a great top clear coat product you can order from sherwin williams called 'showroom finish'. It is made by the makers of 'seal krete'.

I used this over a faux tile floor on concrete I did, and could not be happier. How can i paint linoleum floors the easiest and least expensive way? I want to avoid coat after coat.?
From what I could discern, tile clad paint is for industrial use on steel or concrete surfaces. For a floor, I believe you would need a high-gloss acrylic paint. You should consult a knowledgeable person in any paint department to be sure it is even feasible to paint over linoleum.
umm i do apartment maintenance and i would never think of painting linoleum it woul just peel or rub of in days from what i know about paint
Don't do it at all. If you really want to change to color of your floor, rip out the old linoleum and either put in a different style, or put in another type of floor. Its really not that expensive and it will last a hell of alot longer (cost efficiency).
    What he said

    DO NOT PAINT LINOLEUM!

Pull it up, clean the floor well and apply new linoleum. It's not that expensive. Just do it!

By the way, you'll probably pay more for Tile Clad than you will new linoleum. You can buy some pretty cheap flooring at home centers, and you can cut it yourself to fit your floor. It's an easy weekend project.
I painted my kitchen linoleum and it turned out fine. I cleaned it, sanded it, cleaned it with TSP, put a coat of Zinsser Bins primer on it, painted it (then did some sponge painting on it), then put 4 coats of floor polyurethane on it. Re-did my whole floor for about $35. Go for it!!
Killz Paint makes a latex paint that should do the trick. Plus it will kill all mold and bateria if there is any pet ordor.
    DO NOT PAINT LINOLEUM!

Pull it up, clean the floor well and apply new linoleum. It's not that expensive. Just do it!
I have never known anyone that had good luck with painting linoleum. The paint just does not last in the high traffic areas of the room. I would spend the extra $$$ and tile or lay new linoleum, you'd be surprised how cheap it can be, and you won't have to keep repainting!
First of All, it is not Linoleum, its Vinyl tiles - unless it is 90 years old. Use a wax stripper not Acetone or any other chemical like that- in particular don't use Lacquer thinner of anything like that - it will desolve the tile. Once cleaned of any wax and dirt, best bet is an Epoxy Paint. It does have to wear some don't you think if your walking on it.

Ford and General motors have issued recalls for what is known as 'paint delamination'.General motors had several models with the topcoat flaking off as the car was driven. The dealers were advised to check the ones, presented to the dealer,by applying masking tape in the affected area. When the tape was removed,if paint came off with it,there was a delamination problem.

    (its An Xbox 360)

the plastic is sorta amatte finsih and texturedHelp How Do I Paint Plastic Permanently? Like what is primer or clear coat?
You would need to sand the plastic , giving it a 'toothe' or a texture for paint to adhere to . Then you would wan tto use a primerk, which is a basecoat product to help paint stick and stay on surfaces. Next you would do your paint project and then afte rit has dried and cured well, you could put a clear coat on it. I would call a store where they specialize in models ( car, airplane..that sort of model...) and ask them about th exact paints you would want. You can get them there in small amounts and not have a bunch of stuff left over.

Should I use a base coat/top coat when I paint my nails?

  • Can I coat the outside of a terra cotta pot with spray paint or is bad for the plant I'm going to put in?

After stripping the wax coat off of a leather shoe will acrylic paint hold without cracking?

Are you wearing it or making art out of it? If you're wearing it any paint will crack and acrylic will probably crack right away. If youre making art out of it it'll probably be all right though I would do several thin coats rather than any thick ones. You may also want to apply a clear sealer, which might even help if you were wearing it especially if you were only wearing it once for some special reason.

So they'll apply 1 coat, let it dry, come back and sand it, apply another coat, let it dry, and come back and sand it again.

This really depends on where you live.......... But probably $200-$300.

Edit - Sorry, my e-mail keeps failing when I try to send a response to you, so I'll post it here. :)

Something like that doesn't take very long really. The only hassle for them is that they have to come back a time or two since it takes so long to dry.. So they will probably charge by the ';job';, not by the hour. It would take maybe up to 2 hours to coat it the first time and up to 1 hour to sand it.

If the problem is only some slight dents, is it something you can do yourself? Or are they too severe? You can go to a hardware store and buy spackling and an applicator and put it on yourself and sand it off. But if it's a very big deal, then yes, you should hire someone. How much would it cost to get a skim coat on the wall done? To make the wall aligned for sheen paint.?

depends on the paint... try chacking the lable, it usually specifies what coverage x amount of paint would provideHow many gallons of paint do I need to paint an interior area of 375 square feet, one coat?
About one gallon, if you are painting over a similar color. If you're going to cover light with dark, or dark with light, you may need a second gallon. How many gallons of paint do I need to paint an interior area of 375 square feet, one coat?
One gallon if you are not trying to hide strong colors or color blemishes.
Different kinds and brands of paint %26amp; different colors cover different amounts. If you are going to apply a like color and can get by with one coat go by the label on the paint for coverage.

I measure my room, calculate square feet and do not deduct the area for doors %26amp; windows. That gives me a small cushion which you want especially if you have custom mixed colors.
One gallon of paint will cover 400 square feet, but it all depends on what color you are painting with and what color you are painting over whether or not one coat will actually do the trick.

  • Can you acheive a glossy paint by painting a clear coat over a flat black paint, or what would that look like?

Yes clear coat not only protects your painted project , but can also give you a glossy look , or a satin look and also a matt finish look. But it depends on what kind of substrate (paint surface ie canvas, table, car etc..) you are painting on and the type of paint being used. The satin, matt and gloss look can be achieved with varnish if you are painting on like wood, but if it is done on metal or aluminum

For your project I would recommend using one of the anti-slip floor coatings.....they are water based, relatively inexpensive and very durable. The ready mixed varieties are better than using a latex floor paint and adding sand because they use plastic ';beads'; that are more crush resistant than ordinary play sand mixed with paint. My mom used that stuff to repaint a couple of dressers. It's is really easy to apply, but doesn't last. You have to be sure that the piece is not going to be beat up much.

Basically its a plastic/rubber (can't remember the term) style paint, %26amp; with that it can tear %26amp; peel.

Why not use spray on truck liners? They may not look as good, but almost certainly will hold up better.
I used the flexstone paint on a lamp, about 10 years ago, and it still looks good, but it isn't outside.
Flexstone wears off fast. We painted a desk and where our legs touch it it is smooth as well as dirty. Try a rubber type coating.

Estimate amount of paint needed to apply coat of paint .07 cm thick to hemispherical dome with diameter of 80m?

Use differentials to estimate the amount of paint in cubic centimeters needed to apply a coat of paint .07 cm thick to a hemispherical dome with a diameter of 80 meters

Im stumped!! Help!!Estimate amount of paint needed to apply coat of paint .07 cm thick to hemispherical dome with diameter of 80m?
you don't need differentials, it's just arithmetic

    Area of a hemisphere is

    A = 2蟺r虏 = 2蟺(40)虏 = 2513 m虏

multiply by thickness of 0.0007m to get 1.759 m鲁

multiply by 1000000 to get cm鲁 or 1759000 cm鲁

.Estimate amount of paint needed to apply coat of paint .07 cm thick to hemispherical dome with diameter of 80m?
    S=4pir^2 s=surface area of sphere, r=diameter

    dS=8pirdr

dS is increment increase dr=.07, r=80 meters

find S and half of it find dS and take half of it. add and multiply by .07.

What is the best kind of paint/coating to put on coil springs and leaf springs (and other flexible parts)?

I'm going to be painting my leaf springs and some parts. I would like to know if I should use a particular kind so as to not chip off while the spring are flexing. What is the best kind of paint/coating to put on coil springs and leaf springs (and other flexible parts)?
use a 2k solid color, with the solid color you can add a 'flex additive' to the paint before painting the color i would spray an adhesion promoter then color, also but alot more expensive is to powdercoat, but the most expensive and most durable would be to use a 2k 2 layer with flex additive and to finish with a ceramic clear coat but this clear is around $500US per quart...What is the best kind of paint/coating to put on coil springs and leaf springs (and other flexible parts)?
Powdercoating, where the paint is actually a plastic resin that flexes with the part. Many manufacturers already have their springs coated this way.

I painted a brick wall with one coat of paint and need to know how to remove it.?

more than likely will have to sandblast it of because the bricks are coarse--you will not have any luck with strippersI painted a brick wall with one coat of paint and need to know how to remove it.?
Well, you kinda made a mess, but if you really want to get the paint off, you need to blast it off. You can have it professionally done, or get the supplies you need at some hardware or paint stores. Glass bead or walnut shell will remove the paint while not destroying the brick. If you use paint remover, you will soften the paint and actually make it go deeper into the pores of the mortar and brick. Other than that, there is only one answer as the other person stated, re-paint it.I painted a brick wall with one coat of paint and need to know how to remove it.?
Try a hire place like HSS where you can hire a needle gun which removes paint from brickwork. There's also another power tool but I can find their catalogue at the moment. Sand blasting would work but that would create a lot more mess.

    Try HSS though.
You did not specify if the wall was inside or outside. If it is inside you got a big mess to deal with. If outside, I would start by renting a heavy duty pressure washer. I had to removed paint from bricks and concrete when I had the trim work on my house painted. Of course, I didn't have as much paint to remove as you do. But, it is worth a try. Also, if just pressure washing does not do the trick you could probably spray on a paint stripper and give it time to process. Apply it with a pump-up hand sprayer, then pressure wash it.
If the bricks are not ';facing'; bricks, that is, where the visible surface is a thin coating on what is otherwise a ';common'; then sandblasting is the only way to remove the paint, leaving a clean attractive brick surface showing. If the bricks ARE ';facing'; bricks, sandblasting, while removing the paint, will also remove the facing and leave the ';common'; brick surface showing, probably not attractive.
    paint remover
paint stripper should do the job
The only thing I know to do is to get a heat gun and a scraper .
i dont think ya can maybe only sandblast
Check out the ';Illustrated Guidelines for Rehabilitating Historic Buildings'; under 'masonry' There are explicit steps for removing paint from brick.
Take a seven pound hammer and a good swing, a few well placed blows and you will be left with a pile of bricks. If you wish to remove the paint and keep the wall, try either a good paint remover or several buckets of sand and cement render. Good luck whichever way you go, don't forget to sheet the furnature down as wives get uptight when a layer of dust and rubble coats up your bits and pieces....
i don't now how but i say get paint remover or chisel's it off or erm paint ova it ! ? or wall paper ?
Just keep on painting over it that鈥檚 it, use Paint remover if its spray use graffiti remover
build another wall after you pull the first one down...wont need painting for a few years then....
Most likely you did not do any prep work to the wall prior to painting.

A pressure washer will take it off .
Admin offers the best, viable solution. Other methods may work in a limited way, but the texture and the porous nature of brick will still show paint residue.

it depends on what kind of job you want done, if you want a macco job its about $800. if you want the car to look good like factory with all mouldings, handle, trim etc removed and no evidence of colour change then you will pay around 4 to 5 grand. make sure to take it to a reputable shop that warranties the work done. get it in writting. thats a nice car get the job done righ the first time and it will keep its value. colour doesnt matter for price except if you want the inside o f trunk, hood, doors, etc done then theres more labour involved. good luckHow much for a CusTom Paint Job.... As much as you can ;-) Seriously though. When I quote a paint job, I figure on 1 hour per wall, 1 hour per ceiling and 1 hour per closet. I then multiply this by the amount I want to make per hour and add in materials ie paint, brushes drop cloths etc... I take it you are not a contractor? So I would say to charge by the hour. Remember this people say they want one coat to save money but then will complain when one coat does not cover,or they see imperfections after the fact. if you charge by the hour or by the day you will cover yourself and not loose money.Once you do a few of these jobs you will figure out how much time it takes and you can charge by the job. You dont need differentials to answer this question. Just calculate the surface area of a sphere with diameter of 44 meters. Divide by two to get the surface area of the hemisphere. Then multiply times the thickness of the paint, this would be a great estimate.

i mean after its dried of course.Blue Painters Tape wont peal off a fresh new coat of paint will it ?
Depends how long its cured and how long you leave the tape on. peel it off slowley right after you finish while paint is still wet.Blue Painters Tape wont peal off a fresh new coat of paint will it ?
there are 3 different kinds of blue tape. there are high medium and low tack. the high tack is stickier and may peel off the fresh paint. if you think it may do this then try the low tack. look on the inside of the roll and it should tell you whether it's low, medium, or high tack.
Ne sure you get the right kind of Blue tape. Low tack would be the best.

Also make sure your paint has cured. Much longer than dry time.
shouldn't, i'd give it more than just the base drying time on the can though, maybe a full day rather than a couple of hours. latex dries, and then gets even harder as it cures over several days
Peel it off while the paint is still wet. Slowly.
    Definitely, yes.
i have had blue tape peel off fresh paint even after 24 hours- wait a couple of days.
    yes it will

Does the one coat guarantee Kilz paint work?

Yes, as long as you are painting a light color over a light color. I used it in my kitchen. I painted ';dried fava'; over ivory and it worked great! If you are trying to paint a light color over a dark on I would first us a coat of primer and then you should only need one coat of paint. If you are painting a dark color over a light one you should have the primer tinted the same color as your paint color. I used this techniques when painting my living room red. I only needed one coat of primer and 2 coats of paint instead of the standard 5+ coats you usually need when painting dark colors.Does the one coat guarantee Kilz paint work?
yes, but you may need 2 coatsDoes the one coat guarantee Kilz paint work?
I used 2 coats because it was streaked.

I used it over dark paneling 2 coats %26amp; painted a light color though
Just be sure you are buying the right Kilz for your job. I bought the latex Kilz2 and had to redo the ceilings with Kilz oil based. There were smokers in the house and the Kilz2 didn't cover the smoke damage. Kilz 2 will also not cover water stains either
as long as you are not painting over lead based paint yes it does.
Pretty much. And if not, hey... guarantee!
yes if it is sealing and the color over it is deeper then the color your painting over.
    I give it a 5 1/2
You can have it tinted close to the color you are going to paint over it. Also, the oil based Kilz works best (tint it), but it is very smelly. Make sure it is well vented and you may need a respirator!

When flatting a new paint job, how do I know if I'm sanding through the clear coat?

I spraypainted my fibreglass bumper with an acrylic clear coat and I'm about to flat it with 1500 wet sandpaper. When sanding it, how do I know when I'm sanding through the clear coat? Does the clear coat come off with 1500 sandpaper?

How hard should I be rubbing it?When flatting a new paint job, how do I know if I'm sanding through the clear coat?
if the cars not white and the dust coming off when sanding is white, then its just clear coat. when you start to see the cars color in the dust then you know that you went through the clear coat. clear coat is sort of thick, so just go till its flat. dont push really hard but at the same time dont just rest the sand paper on it and move it, sand it with a bit of pressure. When flatting a new paint job, how do I know if I'm sanding through the clear coat?

I hear you should not polyurathane over exterior paint. But I need something that will keep it from chipping and not yellow the paint. Thanks in advanceI am hand painting murals on aderandac chairs. I am Using exterior latex paint. what clear top coat can i use?
A water-based poly that is rated for exterior use (read: UV protection) would be the fastest match for a latex base coat. With water based polys, the coats are thinner, so more coats arte needed..

This will work well, but has an amber cast..

    http://www.ugl.com/prpolyur.html

A marine spar urethane can be used over the latex, if it has dried long enough.. 3 weeks of low humidity, warm temperatures.

http://www.minwax.com/products/protectiv鈥?/a>I am hand painting murals on aderandac chairs. I am Using exterior latex paint. what clear top coat can i use?
You will need to get some advice from a paint store. Assuming the chairs are going outdoors, the material I would recommend is spar varnish. Most products break down in the UV light. Exterior polyurethanes tend to crack as they are brittle when cured . The expansion %26amp; contraction which occurs with wood will cause it to break down quickly. Spar varnise is a more flexible material and resists this problem well., however it does have a slight amber tint to it.

There might be a waterbased material you could use. These materials are usually crystal clear, but I am not personally familiar with any that could be used outdoors.
I think you can put Verathane over that. You can get it at any hardware store or Depot.

I think that's Adarondack chairs, like the Adarondack Mountains.

Depending on how bad your wall is, it may need 2 coats.

Can you acheive a glossy paint by painting a clear coat over a flat black paint, or what would that look like?

Yes clear coat not only protects your painted project , but can also give you a glossy look , or a satin look and also a matt finish look. But it depends on what kind of substrate (paint surface ie canvas, table, car etc..) you are painting on and the type of paint being used. The satin, matt and gloss look can be achieved with varnish if you are painting on like wood, but if it is done on metal or aluminum

etc.. I would not use a varnish clear coat. I use an automotive clear or you can even use krylon out of a rattle can. Two brands I have used are Coronado Step Safer and Richard's anti slip, I am sure there are others.Looking for information on a paint product called hard rock , flexstone, or granite coat.?
My mom used that stuff to repaint a couple of dressers. It's is really easy to apply, but doesn't last. You have to be sure that the piece is not going to be beat up much.

Basically its a plastic/rubber (can't remember the term) style paint, %26amp; with that it can tear %26amp; peel.

Why not use spray on truck liners? They may not look as good, but almost certainly will hold up better.

Flexstone wears off fast. We painted a desk and where our legs touch it it is smooth as well as dirty. Try a rubber type coating.

You should only need one coat of primer, and a stain-blocking primer is a good idea. The 2 and 3 coats comes in with your finish paint.

I painted it previously (3 years ago) with some kind of silver/tar stuff but I was hoping there was something else out there. What is the best roof paint/coating to use for a metal (tin) roof?
now you have painter it with the silver tar you should just keep with it..the installation of rubber might get costly and the company might not install it over your tar so i would get the old boots on and the old pants and do the deed...What is the best roof paint/coating to use for a metal (tin) roof?
Nope- you need to use the silver/tar stuff becasue it is specailly made for roofs-regular paint doesn't stick for long-it just peels off.

I resently had a ';rubber'; roof put on a rental. It is cheaper than shingles and lasts years and years. you might look for a company that does that!
    Use the tar again...

Does your car start to rust when the paint coating got accidently removed?

I was washing my car and the pressure of the water started to remove the paint. I didn't notice this happening until it started chipping. What should I do?Where do I go to fix this? How much will it cost to repair this? Please help.Does your car start to rust when the paint coating got accidently removed?
If bare metal is showing through, your car will begin to rust. This will result because the metal used to make your car will begin to oxidize due to the surrounding outside moisture.Does your car start to rust when the paint coating got accidently removed?
If it is bare metal you need to get it fixed soon or rust will start. Take it to a local bodyshop if you are in Az. I can help.

  • Blue Painters Tape wont peal off a fresh new coat of paint will it ?

i mean after its dried of course.Blue Painters Tape wont peal off a fresh new coat of paint will it ?

YOU MIGHT HAVE TO WET SAND IT.I REALLY CANNOT SAY,BUT IF YOU LIGHTLY RUB UNTIL IT IS SMOOTH THAT SHOULD BE ALL YOU NEED

Sure you can do this, we do this when a customer wants the rear bumper painted flat, the only thing that we do is after the paint has dried you should slightly sand it and then apply the clear coat and it looks pretty good and the paint will last longer and will not rust.............
