Do i need a primer base coat for walls that are already white, when i want to paint walls neutral light brown?

i don't think this is even necessary, but my roomie insists that the walls will ';soak'; up the paint?

oh, and the walls have never been painted before. the house is appx. 10 years old.Do i need a primer base coat for walls that are already white, when i want to paint walls neutral light brown?
what was on the wall if they have not been painted? you want a bond so the paint sticks to the wall is the reason for primerDo i need a primer base coat for walls that are already white, when i want to paint walls neutral light brown?
Not really necessary to prime but you will have to clean the walls using TSP.

I would get a gallon of primer and have it tinted to your paint color. Primer is cheaper and you will probably only need 1 coat of paint this way.

If the walls are painted in a flat paint then prime the walls because you won't be able to clean them very well.
yes you should still use primer because it will give it a cleaner look and the white walls you have now could be dirty and won't make the paint stand out to its full potential. You should always use primer even if the walls are already white
