What is the difference between ablative type and imtumescent type of fire coating/paint?

Please let me know What is the difference between ablative type and imtumescent type of fire coating/paint? Please furnish the details such as advantages/disadvantages of each type of coating .What is the difference between ablative type and imtumescent type of fire coating/paint?
ablative coatings absorb heat and burn off, like the heat shield on a space capsule returning to earth. Normally, they are somewhat insulating as installed. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ablation#Pa鈥?/a>

intumescent (note n not m in 2nd position) coatings puff up forming an insulating barrier to keep the material below at a lower heat. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intumescent

As installed, ablative must be thicker to do their job which can be a disadvantage over intumescent which can be thin until heated.
