How can I keep the top coat gloss of the paint on my car from chipping?

Very little, I'm afraid. Even a high grade teflon paint sealer won't do that, although it will cut down love bug damage drastically.

The only thing that works is an additional top coat of clear polyurethane enamel, it's flexible, and won't chip, crack, or peel.

If it's wet-sanded smooth after painting with 1200 grit, then buffed out to a high gloss, it makes the paint look absolutely wet. Very hot looking. %26lt;kinda like you%26gt;How can I keep the top coat gloss of the paint on my car from chipping?
A good paint job is meant to resist stone chips and the preparation provides the best protection. There are many choices along the refinishing stages that can add extra protection. Using epoxy sealers over urethane, adding hardener to the base coat %26amp; practicing proper cleaning procedures are all ways in which the paint will adhere better. I'm not sure your story if your doing this yourself or if its a going to a shop, but a good shop will offer a warranty against this sort of thing.

Our shop offers a lifetime warranty against excessive stone chipping %26amp; has only had 1 claim in the last 4 years. I have a Sunfire that was painted 2 years ago and I go over it constantly and still can't find a chip on it.

One other factor that plays in paint durability is ';mil thickness';. Your paint has a certain range of thickness it should not exceed or you will run a higher risk. You can basically count on being able to have your car painted twice before too much material builds up and needs to be removed to do it properly.

Another thing you could consider is the 3M vinyl strips you can have applied in the hot spots. How can I keep the top coat gloss of the paint on my car from chipping?
really the only way to keep it from chipping is to not drive it, or avoid dirt roads, small pebbles and other debris causes paint chips
Vaseline all over ... 3 times a month!!

p.s. nice to see your back!
