What is the best interior semi gloss paint that you only have to paint 1 coat instead of 2 coats?

as others have stated, the color you've already got on the wall and the color you are going to put on the wall can make a difference, but, KILZ claims to be able to cover any color in just one coat. I have used Martha Stewart paint and only needed to do 1 coat, and I was putting a darker color over an off white. Also, Pittsburgh paint and Valspar paints have very good coverage.

All these paints are good, thick paints that don't splatter all over like cheaper, thinner ones.

Of these, the Valspar was the most expensive at around $25/gal at Lowes. The Martha Stewart and Pittsburgh paints were under $20 per gallon at a Menards home improvement store (these stores are only in the midwest). Martha Stewart paint may also be available at Kmart. Kilz is available at Walmart and possibly Lowes/Home Depot. What is the best interior semi gloss paint that you only have to paint 1 coat instead of 2 coats?
Yes, it does make a difference what brand of paint you use. The best paint for the best price is Behr paint from Home Depot. It lays out much better than some more expensive paints. Yes you could prime before, but don't use the Kilz brand of primer, it is crap. Use Zinnsser brand of primer. Get it tinted to the closest they can to the final color you want. But, unless you are painting over a really dark color, I wouldn't waste my time or money. Use a good paint and use a roller with a thicker nap, just don't press the roller too hard or you will get lines of thick paint near the edge of the roller.

So, recap:

Great paint: Behr or if you want to splurge Benjamin Moore Super Spec (not their top of the line paint - it isn't as good as the cheaper on)

Thicker nap on the roller.

Take your time when painting.

Use enough paint, you shouldn't have to press really hard to get the paint up there, that means you need to get paint on your roller more often.

I hope it goes well! What is the best interior semi gloss paint that you only have to paint 1 coat instead of 2 coats?

If you have to ask I can only assume you are not a professional. Since that is the case I can tell you that applying a second coat is going to stop the regrets after your done. The next day or the next sunny period in the room or night time lighting usually result in finding alot of poor coverage if you do only one coat. manufacturers recommend 2 coats and servicablity is best with 2 coats. over 26 years as a professional painter.
That's really a tough/unfair question, b/c 1) it simply depends on the color you're starting with and the color you want to end with on the surface you're attempting to paint and 2) the quality of the paint. For instance, going from White to a different shade of white will require only a single coat of a mediocre, even store-branded paint. However, going from a White to a Red, may even require 3 coats of a reputable brand, but less likely (with ie Benjamin Moore).

Personally, I would buy nothing less than Benjamin Moore or Sherman-Williams, after having experience applying Behr, Valspar, etc. I would go as far as trying out Ralph Lauren but beyond that, I'd stick with what I'm familiar with.
I have been painting for 25yr and the best paint i have used is made by Devoe.Wonder tones semi gloss. The cost is 30 dollars per gallon but covers with 1 coat.I understand the price is way out of range but you will love the results.
I don't think it's so much the brand of paint. The color and condition of the existing wall would determine that. For example, if your walls are red and now you want to paint them beige, you would first need to use a primer. If your walls are light blue and you now want to paint them dark blue, then that's simple. It's well worth it to use two coats of paint.
Whether or not you need to double coat is not really about the quality of paint, but rather what colors you are talking about. Going from dark to light always demands a primer, or at the very least a second or even third coat. (Dry well inbetween.)

Now, if you are using similar colors, or going darker, one coat will do if applied correctly. Good luck!

Blessings
