How long should I let my wall paint dry before applying a second coat?

A second coat of latex paint my be applied 4 hours after the first coat. High humidity will prolong the drying time as much as 4 additional hours. Oil-based paints may be repainted after 24 hours. How long should I let my wall paint dry before applying a second coat?
Maybe an hour or so? Just until it dries, usually doesn't take that long. How long should I let my wall paint dry before applying a second coat?
It depends on the weather. My son painted my rec-room in the summer and by the time he finished painting it, it was all dry. He talked about giving it another coat for 20 minutes and then he started painting it again. It was fine.
45 minute
depends oil based or not. A few hours two or so
Different paints require different set times...Also humidity will play a factor. There should be drying times on the can. But normally at least 8 hours
Just dry enough to the touch (about an hour depending on the type of surface and paint quality) or right before when a bit can paint your finger when touched (but doesn;t smear the wall). If you paint any earlier you will just be spreading around more paint and it won't be even (lots of dripping).
at least a day.
i say a hour to two
at least an hour. touch a tiny tiny part with a fingernail.
You should let it dry until the paint is no longer wet.
The best would be 24 hours. Don't rush it. It will make it look streaky and faded in places. I would go for it after 12 hours have passed.
i would read the can paints differ by brand
Alteast an hour
HELLO, Love these question's because iam a painter if you are painting inside are out humidity does have alot to do with it. Primer they have a fast drying primer that can be recovered in up to 1 hour but if you have time the longer you let it cure the better. On the finish coat let the paint dry until the next day because if you paint over paint that has not dryed you will not get a good coverge on the second coat which will cause you to have to apply a 3rd coat which you dont wont to do. More paint more labor so dont read the can's humidity is the factor of drying time and from touch you use your jugdement. If you have a big project you can go from one room to the next and if you not to tried you can start over again if time has passed and humidity's high and feels good to the touch. Now there are 3 grade's of paint low, med, high grade each has different price you can get a good job out of the med grade there really is not much differance just the price. If your painting with oil base than you going into something else as drying time 24 hours in most case's but if the humidity is not high i've seen oil base paint be wet when we went to work the next day so with oil base try to apply thin coat's for faster drying time. But i do not recommend oil base paint because soon it will be outlawed in many state's because of the ozone layer they have stoped selling oil base paint's in some state's allready. If you have oil base paint now you have a choice use it again if they sell it in your state or clean with knox gloss and sand with 120 grit or 100 grit sandpaper. Than use a primer and at that point after the drying time as occured you can use latax paint over oil but only if you follow what i tell you or it will not bond at all.Good Luck with your painting. Rememeber this the people at the store's are trained to sell paint for commision with there pay check's they are sent to school and experince is the best factor. ICHOOSETOTELLTHETRUTH.
24 hours
I always wait at least two hours.
At least an hour - if you do not wait the partially dry paint will stick to the roller or brush = BIG MESS trust me....
an hour to two hours if ti is not dry it will not turn out like it is suposed to
It all depends !
Hi, after going to ';bear coll.'; for home depot, we learned that the prime coat should be left on in normal conditions for no more than two hours, this way the primer has a chance to skim over, but not cure yet, giving you the bond,or marriage of the new and the old paints. this second coat of paint if needed(tint the primer 1/4-1/2 the color of the paint next time and you will only need one coat) should be applied just after the first coat skims, but not cures, for the sheen will not allow it to stick toghter if left to cure. if you have left it too long, just let it dry well, take a fine pcs. of sand paer and lightly go over area being painted in the sheen is anything over eggshell.
wait a couple of hours but make sure to paint in the same direction and way as the first coat or you will get streaks and it wont turn out right
about 2 and a half hours.
at the minimum wait until you can touch it and it does not feel tackey
depending on the temperature...if its around 72degrees 2 to 3 hours. if its colder between 4 to 6 hours.
Forget ALL of that - READ THE CAN !
