Automotive painting/after the 3rd coat of metallic base paint,is it necessary to sand bfore applying clear?

I've already applied 2-3 coats of primer and sanded it at 400 grit, my next step is to spray 2-3 coats of the super dark gray metallic. After the basecoat dries, is it necessary to sand before appyling the clear coat? Can i just spray the clearcoats after the basecoat dries. If so why? I will also add a antique silver pearl to the clear coat.Automotive painting/after the 3rd coat of metallic base paint,is it necessary to sand bfore applying clear?
no your not suppose to sand basecoat. I think because it doesnt give it a high gloss finish in the end and because its really thin compared to primer so you will sand through 1 or 2 layers if not all of it right back to the primer.Automotive painting/after the 3rd coat of metallic base paint,is it necessary to sand bfore applying clear?
The clearcoat is meant to be applied to the basecoat as soon as it flashes off. Be careful adding other components to the clearcoat, things may not work out well.Maybe do some test panels first.
