How long should I wait before applying a second coat of spray paint?

I'm spraypainting my skateboard deckHow long should I wait before applying a second coat of spray paint?
Matters on the type of paint you are using, If you used a high solid one part epoxy that won't chip, tear, or wear off and is water proof like Top Secret Coatings TS-100 then it will dry relatively fast and it may be repainted within an hour. However if you used a low priced latex paint it will take maybe up to a day to dry, and then you can spray it on again. You can check on it's dryness by putting your finger down when it looks dry and pressing down with your weight. If you did buy a lower priced latex, it will only last for a couple months and then it will look very scratched up and need repainting. May I suggest next time you go for a paint that will last twenty years without tears, scratching, peeling like ts-100.

According to direction printed on the spray can or paint.
The instructions should give you an answer, but don't be scared to double/triple that time, certainly when you want more layers as two.

I play with an airbrush a lot and make boomerangs. Just like a skateboard... boomerangs have to endure quite some force and are prone to scratching. (It's actually quite difficult to catch 'm, if not it would be pretty boring ;-)

Usually I let them dry for a week (!) before I apply the next coating although instructions advice 1-2 days. Fresh top layers may solve the previous coating a little, so the underlaying coating should be as dry and hard as possible.

Fast jobs... often result in poor results on the long term.
What does the can say? Read it.
