What do i do when i want to paint but the previous coat wasnt primed?

i want to paint my room, but the colour that is there now wasn't primed, they just painted over whatever was there. it will peel in certain spots really easily but others its very hard to come off. can i just apply 2 coats of primer over the paint, even though it half peeled, or is there anything else i can do? sanding it doesn't help either.. help pleaseWhat do i do when i want to paint but the previous coat wasnt primed?
i had that happen with my room %26amp; i just primed over it two times than painted the color i wanted.

its been three years almost %26amp; i haven't had any problems with it.

so good luck :) !What do i do when i want to paint but the previous coat wasnt primed?
First you need to establish what sort of paint is currently on the walls now. Get some methylated spirits, put some on a clean cloth or rag, rub it on the painted wall like you are sanding it. If the paint starts to come off on the cloth then you have acrylic (water based paint) on the walls, if the area just starts to develop a shine, then you have oil based paint.

Now, depending on the result, you only need ONE coat of primer, not 2, as that's just a waste of time and money. If you have got oil based paint you CAN change it to a water based paint system, just give the walls a light sanding, apply one coat of acrylic sealer undercoat and then one or two coats of a good quality water based acrylic paint that will allow you to wipe down the walls should they get dirty.

One last thing, depending on what colour you want the final coat to be, ask the sales person if they can tint the under the same colour as the top, that will save you have to do 2 coats of topcoat.

Good Luck.
